In 2013, PCW, in the heart of inner Melbourne, celebrates 140 years of sustained commitment to education for all, inclusion and social justice. The college's diverse community reflects the contemporary Australia this generation of young women will lead — internationally connected, innovative and open to change.
PCW has always been a school of its time — looking forward, taking risks and providing challenges. In the 1880s, graduates of PCW were at the University of Melbourne, establishing a tradition of achievement and leadership that the college continues to embrace and reflect.
Conveniently located in Windsor, five kilometres from the CBD, with easy access to train, tram and major transport routes, we take advantage of our location, creating a dynamic curriculum that extends well beyond the classroom.
PCW is a learning-teaching school, with highly qualified, expert staff; professional learning based on Richard Elmore's Instructional Rounds; and, as a base school for the University of Melbourne’s master of teaching, a leading educator of emerging teachers. Research partnerships with Monash University, Swinburne University and the University of Melbourne contribute to the knowledge of staff in responding to the learning needs of all students and maintain a vital connection with the contemporary education discourse.
It is well understood at PCW that student wellbeing underpins engagement and achievement. Resilience and confidence are engendered through the Martin Seligman-based Positive Education program.
Curriculum at senior levels is designed to maximise the choice of studies and promote academic achievement, leading to further education at university, TAFE and industry-based learning programs and to employment. Our 20-year partnership with CBC St Kilda provides co-ed senior classes. We offer 36 VCE studies, 18 VET studies and Intermediate and Senior VCAL. Our Year 9 program, ‘Eachtra’, provides a year of adventurous learning, preparing our girls for Senior School.
PCW is at the forefront of contemporary educational technology, with in-classroom electronic applications; iPads for all students and staff; and 24/7 online communications for students, staff and families, including regular, live, constructive and ongoing feedback on assessments.
Visit PCW and discover more. Our Open Day is in February each year. Fortnightly school tours run during term time, commencing at 9 am in the boardroom with a school overview, followed by a tour of the school and facilities. In May, August and October, information mornings are held. Check the website at www.pcw.vic.edu.au for dates and ring the Registrar, Ms Trish Chester, on (03) 8517 2704 to book.
